SRINAGAR 4 Jun : Search operations entered the fifth consecutive day on Thursday as rescue teams continued efforts to trace the body of a 42-year-old Srinagar man who is feared to have drowned in the Lidder River in Pahalgam while attempting to save his son.
Officials identified the missing person as Mohammad Ashraf Mir, son of Ghulam Mohiuddin Mir, a resident of Ikhrajpora, Jawahar Nagar in Srinagar.
The incident took place on Sunday in the Langanbal area of Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, between 10:30 am and 11:00 am, when several families who had travelled together in three vehicles were spending time along the riverbank.
According to officials, the group was taking photographs near the Lidder River close to the Kolahoi Green Hotel when Mir’s son, Fahad, slipped into the fast-flowing water.
In an attempt to rescue him, Mir entered the river but was swept away by the strong current.
Soon after the incident was reported, search and rescue operations were launched by teams of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police and other agencies. The operation resumed on Thursday morning and was continuing at the time of reporting, with personnel still working to locate the missing man.
