Srinagar, May 07 : With the imminent polls on the Parliamentary constituencies of Srinagar, Baramulla, and the newly formed Anantnag-Rajouri seat, security forces are escalating their preparations to safeguard the integrity and security of the democratic process.

Previously, under the direction of the Election Commission, the Jammu and Kashmir police along with other security forces diligently carried out their duties during the Jammu and Udhampur parliamentary elections.

With the successful completion of polling in these constituencies, the undivided attention of the security forces is now directed towards ensuring a peaceful and seamless electoral process in the upcoming parliamentary constituencies.

The Srinagar constituency is slated for polling on May 13, with Baramulla following on May 20. Additionally, the elections for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary seat, previously postponed, are now scheduled for May 25, highlighting the extensive electoral process unfolding in the region.

As per News agency Kashmir News Service (KNS), reported that in anticipation of the polling, security officials have articulated a meticulous strategy to address every facet of security concern.

“A comprehensive security blueprint is being laid out to fortify polling booths based on their sensitivity, secure the strong room, and safeguard the collection and distribution centers of electronic voting machines (EVMs).

Transportation logistics, route planning, and the strategic deployment of central paramilitary forces are also part of the comprehensive security arrangements,” sources in the security establishment said.

Sources said that a robust communication strategy will complement security measures to manage law and order effectively.
“Standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be established to address any exigencies, with intensified surveillance efforts to monitor individuals with a history of disruptive behavior.

The authorities remain vigilant against potential misuse of social media platforms, aiming to prevent any untoward incidents,” sources maintained.

Moreover, meticulous monitoring of polling party movements, accommodation arrangements for Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), and security protocols for public gatherings, processions, and rallies will be implemented. Special emphasis will be placed on thwarting subversive activities by anti-national elements; with strengthened police control rooms (PCRs) enhancing reporting channels, said the sources.

“To ensure accessibility, and if necessary, paramilitary forces and polling staff will be airlifted to remote areas via helicopters, reaffirming the commitment to conducting free, fair, and secure elections in the Kashmir province,” sources added.

The electoral landscape features notable contenders competing for parliamentary seats, including figures such as Omar Abdullah, Sajad Lone, Mehbooba Mufti, Waheed Parra, Aga Ruhullah, Zafar Iqbal Manhas, Mian Altaf, and Ashraf Mir, among other candidates.

As the stage is set for a crucial electoral process, the collective efforts of security forces and electoral authorities aim to uphold the democratic principles and ensure the peaceful participation of citizens in shaping the region’s political landscape.
