Jammu, Apr 2 National Conference Legislator Irshad Rasool Kar on Thursday said restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir should follow the withdrawal of security cover for legislators, asserting that the move indicates improved ground situation.

“The Prime Minister and Home Minister Amit Shah must be feeling that normalcy has returned to Kashmir. The way MLAs’ security has been withdrawn, statehood will also be restored,” MLA Kar told KNS.

He said no legislator had formally complained about the withdrawal of security and added that the decision must have been taken after due consideration by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

MLA Kar also said he condemned the recent attack on former chief minister Farooq Abdullah in the House.

He argued that the withdrawal of security reflects an official assessment that the situation has improved, adding that this should pave the way for restoration of statehood.

Jammu and Kashmir was reorganised into two Union Territories after the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. Restoration of statehood has since remained a key demand of mainstream political parties.(KNS)
