The Jammu and Kashmir Senior Citizens council held an Annual high level meet to discuss the civic issues in kishtwar here today. The programme was held under the leadership of Abdul Majeed Bichoo Founder President of the council.
The participants exhorted maintaining communal harmony which remains foremost priority of the council. However, the meeting highlighted that Kishtwar town and its suburban areas are facing critical challenges that demand urgent attention from the District administration. These issues are significantly affecting the quality of life and health of the residents and must be addressed without delay.
The area is currently being supplied with unfiltered water. This is a severe health hazard, contributing to numerous waterborne diseases and compromising the well-being of the community. It is imperative that the administration takes immediate steps to ensure a safe and filtered water supply to prevent further health crises.
Comparatively it is very unfortunate that drinking water supply in villages is worst.
The council focussed the lack of a proper sewerage disposal system which has resulted in unhygienic conditions and foul smells, making everyday life unbearable for the residents. The administration must take up the issue with the government and relevant departments to implement an effective sewerage disposal system, thereby improving sanitary conditions and the overall quality of life.
The council in its meet said that
Pollution and traffic congestion are escalating problems in the Kishtwar. The members added that a bypass road from Dewaroo to Dugga was approved and funded under the CRF plan of the Government of India. However, despite being under the District administration’s purview, the road work remains incomplete after four years. The timely completion of this project is essential to reduce pollution and alleviate traffic congestion, contributing to a healthier and more navigable environment.
Mr. Romesh Sen Chief Organisor of Council emphasized the importance of addressing infrastructural needs before granting construction permits in MC Kishtwar, particularly in Panchayats he pointed out that proper drainage and sewerage systems must be considered to prevent future sanitation issues. Additionally, he stressed the immediate need for the removal of dry branches from trees adjoining houses and road side just to enhance safety and prevent potential hazards.
