A Land of Spiritual Serenity Under the Dark Spell
Kashmir, long celebrated as the ‘Paradise on Earth,’ has been witnessing a disturbing undercurrent—an insidious rise in black magic practices. In a region revered for its Sufi traditions, faith, and resilience, a sinister cloud looms, threatening to distort the very fabric of society.
The Resurgence of Dark Arts: A Troubling Trend
Once considered mere whispers in hushed alleys, reports of black magic have now taken center stage. Cases of individuals resorting to occult practices for personal gain, revenge, and influence have surged. The distressing part? Many victims come from deeply religious backgrounds, shaken to their core by experiences beyond rational comprehension.
Black magic, known as ‘Sihr’ in Islamic teachings, is not just a figment of superstition but a reality with severe consequences. The Holy Quran explicitly warns against such practices, stating:
“And they followed [instead] what the devils had recited during the reign of Solomon. It was not Solomon who disbelieved, but the devils disbelieved, teaching people magic…” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:102)
This verse categorically establishes that magic is a tool of Satan, condemned in the strongest terms. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) also warned:
“Whoever practices magic has committed shirk (associating partners with Allah), and whoever commits shirk is doomed.”(Surah an-Nasa’i’ 4079)
Severe Punishment for Practicing Black Magic in Islam
Islam strictly prohibits black magic, and those who engage in it face grave consequences both in this world and the Hereafter. The Quran states:
“And they learned what harmed them and did not benefit them. But they (who practiced magic) certainly knew that whoever purchased the magic would not have in the Hereafter any share.” (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:102)
This verse explicitly warns that those who turn to magic will have no portion in the Hereafter, meaning they will be deprived of Allah’s mercy and blessings.
The Prophet (PBUH) also said:
“The prescribed punishment for a magician is that he be executed.” (Tirmidhi 1460)
Scholars interpret this as a clear indication of the severity of black magic in Islam, classifying it among the most heinous sins.
Why is Black Magic Rising in Kashmir?
- The Desire for Quick Solutions
In an era of impatience and desperation, people are seeking quick fixes for their problems—be it wealth, love, or revenge. Faith healers, or so-called ‘Babas,’ exploit these vulnerabilities, promising miraculous outcomes through spells and talismans. - The Exploitation of Faith
The spiritual richness of Kashmir makes it an easy target for fraudsters who masquerade as saints. They manipulate verses from the Quran, mislead the gullible, and instill fear to gain power over their followers. - The Psychological Toll of Conflict
Decades of unrest have left people mentally and emotionally drained. When traditional avenues fail, some turn to mysticism and occult practices as a last resort. This dependency fuels the black magic industry, making it a lucrative trade. - Weak Legal Enforcement
Despite black magic being illegal in many Islamic countries, law enforcement in Kashmir remains largely ineffective against it. The absence of strict action allows this menace to thrive. - Influence of Social Media and Digital Misguidance
With the rise of digital platforms, self-proclaimed magicians and occult practitioners have found new ways to spread their influence. Online advertisements, YouTube videos, and social media posts promote black magic services, making them more accessible than ever. - Declining Religious Education
A lack of proper Islamic education and spiritual guidance has led many people to fall prey to false beliefs. Strengthening the knowledge of faith can act as a shield against superstitions and misleading practices.
The Harrowing Impact on Society - Families in Ruins
Marriages break apart, relationships turn bitter, and familial bonds erode under the influence of black magic. Envy and jealousy fuel these sinister attacks, causing irreversible damage. - Mental and Physical Deterioration
Victims report unexplained illnesses, nightmares, and psychological trauma. What starts as minor discomfort often escalates into severe health conditions, leaving them weak and vulnerable. - A Crisis of Faith
Many who fall prey to black magic lose trust in divine decree, replacing faith in Allah with fear of unseen forces. This spiritual crisis leads to an increase in hopelessness and detachment from religious values. - Economic Exploitation
The business of black magic has become a multi-million-rupee industry. People spend exorbitant amounts of money on so-called spiritual healers, only to find themselves trapped in a cycle of dependency and deceit. - Rise in Crime and Violence
Many cases of black magic-related crimes, including fraud, abuse, and even murder, have surfaced in recent years. People, blinded by rage and revenge, take extreme measures to harm others under the illusion of magical influence.
The Islamic Perspective: A Call to Action
Islam offers clear guidance on protecting oneself from black magic. The Prophet (PBUH) provided powerful antidotes, including:
Recitation of Surah Al-Falak and Surah An-Nas: These chapters serve as shields against evil forces.
Ayat-ul-Kursi (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:255): A verse known for its immense protection from harm.
Seeking Refuge in Allah: Placing complete trust in Allah’s decree ensures safety from the evil eye and malicious forces.
Breaking the Chain: Steps Towards Eradication - Raising Awareness
Islamic scholars and community leaders must address this issue openly, educating people about the dangers of black magic and the importance of relying solely on faith. - Strengthening Legal Measures
Authorities must introduce stricter laws against those who practice and promote black magic. Public crackdowns will act as deterrents, discouraging its spread. - Empowering the Faithful
Teaching the younger generation about the power of sincere prayer, dhikr (remembrance of Allah), and ruqyah (spiritual healing) can prevent them from falling into the trap of occultism. - Exposing Fraudsters
Communities must take collective action against self-proclaimed healers who exploit others for financial gain. A transparent verification system can help differentiate genuine spiritual guides from frauds. - Promoting Psychological and Spiritual Healing Centers
Instead of resorting to black magic, people should be encouraged to seek professional help, including counselling, therapy, and Islamic healing methods, to address their issues effectively.
Hope on the Horizon: A Future Free from Dark Practices
Despite the rising cases, the battle against black magic in Kashmir is not lost. Faith, awareness, and legal intervention can curb this growing menace. The valley, known for its breath-taking beauty and deep-rooted spirituality, must reclaim its sanctity from the shadows of deception.
The Quran reminds us:
“Indeed, the power belongs entirely to Allah.” (Surah Yunus 10:65)
By upholding the principles of Islam and strengthening our faith, we can dismantle the web of black magic and restore peace to our beloved Kashmir. Let light triumph over darkness, and let truth dispel the illusions of Sihr, once and for all.
