Cold wave conditions continued across Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, with most parts of the Kashmir valley recording sub-zero minimum temperatures, officials said.
According to the data, Shopian and Sonamarg emerged as the coldest places in the Kashmir region, both recording a low of minus 5.5 degrees Celsius. Gulmarg, the famous ski resort, registered a minimum temperature of minus 5.0 degrees Celsius, while Pulwama recorded minus 4.9 degrees Celsius.
In Srinagar, the minimum temperature settled at minus 2.4 degrees Celsius, while the airport area recorded a lower minimum of minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. Other parts of south Kashmir also witnessed intense cold, with Anantnag recording minus 4.2 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam minus 3.8 degrees Celsius, Qazigund minus 3.3 degrees Celsius and Awantipora minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.
Kupwara and Pampore recorded identical minimum temperatures of minus 3.0 degrees Celsius, while Budgam registered minus 3.1 degrees Celsius. In north Kashmir, Baramulla recorded minus 1.9 degrees Celsius, Bandipora minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, Sopore minus 3.1 degrees Celsius and Ganderbal minus 0.9 degrees Celsius. Beerwah in Budgam recorded a low of minus 4.1 degrees Celsius, while Aloosa in Bandipora registered minus 0.4 degrees Celsius.
In the Jammu region, comparatively milder temperatures prevailed. Jammu city recorded a minimum of 7.2 degrees Celsius, while Jammu Airport registered 7.4 degrees Celsius. However, higher reaches experienced colder conditions, with Banihal recording minus 2.3 degrees Celsius and Bhaderwah minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. Samba recorded a minimum of minus 0.1 degrees Celsius, while Udhampur and Rajouri recorded 0.6 degrees Celsius and 0.5 degrees Celsius respectively.
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has forecast continuation of cold conditions over the next few days, particularly in the Kashmir valley and higher reaches of the Jammu region.
