Srinagar, Jan 12: Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) has upgraded its Emergency Operation Theatre (OT) with state-of-the-art equipment to strengthen emergency surgery and critical care services.
Officials said the modernisation aims to improve rapid-response procedures, enhance surgical precision and ensure better outcomes for patients requiring urgent interventions.
Key Additions to Emergency OT
• C-Arm (Mobile Imaging Unit):
The new C-Arm imaging system is expected to enhance neurosurgical and spine-related interventions, improve precision in orthopaedic and plastic surgery procedures, and support real-time imaging for multiple specialties in coordination with a high-end ultrasound unit.
• Laparoscopic Facility:
The laparoscopic upgrade will enable minimally invasive emergency surgeries, resulting in reduced post-operative pain, faster recovery, shorter hospital stays, and improved outcomes in acute abdominal and trauma-related cases.
The upgraded facility was reviewed and inaugurated by Director SKIMS/EOSG, Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, in the presence of Dean Medical Faculty, Prof. Showkat A. Gurcoo; Head Emergency, Prof. Abrar A. Wani; HOD General Surgery, Prof. Aijaz Mallik; HOD Paediatric Surgery, Prof. Nisar A. Bhat; Director Finance, Dr. Manzoor Ahmad Wani; and other senior faculty and administrative officials.
The officials added that the initiative reflects SKIMS’ continued commitment to advanced emergency care, especially in high-volume settings requiring timely, technology-enabled surgical interventions | Kashmir Pen
