Srinagar, Nov 25 (KNC): Srinagar Municipal Corporation on Tuesday issued an advisory urging residents, local committees and animal welfare volunteers to ensure proper feeding and care of community animals within SMC limits, in line with Section-20 of the Animal Birth Control (ABC) Rules, 2023.

In a public notice issued by the Municipal Veterinary Officer, SMC as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC said the responsibility of arranging feeding points for community animals lies with Resident Welfare Associations, Mohalla Committees, Apartment Associations and recognised animal welfare activists.

The notice states that designated feeding spots must be fixed through mutual agreement, ensuring they are away from children’s play areas, staircases, entry and exit points, and other sensitive locations. Feeding timings should also be set in consideration of the movement of children and senior citizens, it reads.

Further, feeders are required to maintain cleanliness at feeding sites and follow guidelines framed by their respective committees. They are also permitted to volunteer in vaccination, catching and release of dogs as part of the Animal Birth Control programme, the statement added.

SMC has appealed to the public, especially community representatives and volunteers, to come forward and feed street animals “as a compassionate gesture.” (KNC)
