A massive snow avalanche hit near Drang area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district blocking the water flow to dozens of villages, officials said.

Executive Engineer Jal Shakti Tangmarg Mohammad Yousuf Khan told Rising Kashmir that a snow avalanche hits upper reaches of Drang area which later on blocked the water flow to the filtration plant.

He said that the snow avalanche blocked the water flow to Hariwatnoo Kilwara water filtration plant which serves drinking water to several villages of the area.

“The areas that are receiving drinking water supply from the filtration plant are Tangmarg, Maheen, Treran, Shajimarg Qazi Compora, Zirin, Warpora, Shalgam, Hajibal and Waniloo besides Hariwatnoo Kilwara,” the official said.

EXEN Jal Shakti Tangmarg appealed to the locals to use drinking water judiciously as the flow from the backend has reduced to a great extent.

“We will try our level best to restore the water supply as soon as possible and if weather permits. However, drinking water tankers will be utilised in the affected areas,” he further said.
