Srinagar, Apr 13: The Directorate of School Education Kashmir (DSEK) has suspended a senior lecturer from a government higher secondary school in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district following an intervention by the local MLA.

An order issued by the DSEK accessed news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) stated that Ghulam Hassan Mir, Senior Lecturer in Urdu at Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) Sopore, has been attached to BHSS Badugam in Gurez, Bandipora, pending an inquiry into his conduct.

The Joint Director (North) has been appointed as the inquiry officer and has been directed to submit a report to the Directorate within 15 days, officials said on Monday.

Official sources confirmed that the action came after Sopore MLA Irshad Rasool Kar brought the matter to the attention of Education Minister Sakina Itoo. The exact nature of the allegations against the lecturer could not be immediately ascertained.

Meanwhile, the overall situation remained peaceful in the town. Students who had earlier raised their voice against the alleged incident ended their protest demonstration without any further trouble, officials added. (KNS)
