SRINAGAR 10 Jun : Police in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district have disengaged a Special Police Officer (SPO) from service with immediate effect following his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, police said SPO Khalid Nazir Khan (3098/SPO), a resident of Katipora, Tangmarg, was removed from the SPO cadre after his involvement surfaced during the investigation of an NDPS case registered at Police Station Kunzer.

According to police, on April 23, 2026, a naka checking operation conducted at Wussan Crossing by Police Station Kunzer led to the interception of an Alto vehicle. The occupants, including the SPO, were found in a suspicious condition during the checking.

Police said syringes and needles were recovered from their possession, while silver foil paper allegedly used for the consumption of narcotic substances was recovered from the vehicle.

Subsequently, FIR No. 46/2026 under Sections 8, 27 and 29 of the NDPS Act was registered at Police Station Kunzer.
