Srinagar, March 29 2018

A special police officer (SPO) of Jammu and Kashmir police was killed while as his wife sustained injuries by unknown gunmen in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Thursday evening.

An official said that gunmen fired at SPO Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh at his residence in Katsoo village. “Sheikh who was posted at Police Post Sangam died on the spot,” said the official, adding that his wife Fareeda received injuries.

The injured woman was immediately shifted to nearby hospital for treatment.

The incident took place at 8:25 pm in Katsoo in Bijbehara.

Soon after the incident, a joint team of forces launched a hunt to nab the assailants, the official said.
