The 430-km  Srinagar- Sonamarg- Leh road, which was closed for over a week, is likely to be thrown open for vehicular traffic today.

The project Beacon of the Border Roads Organization (BRO) is putting up all its efforts to clear the road off the snow by pressing additional men and equipment at 11500 fts at zojila top, said an official.

The area witnessed a heavy spell of snowfall over the past five days strapping the communication link with Ladakh.

The official said that the snow clearance teams are  working despite the nail-biting cold and snow storms, which are hampering the snow clearance operation. “Despite all the odds,  we are expecting to open the highway today provided all goes well,” said the BRO official.
