Waheed Jeelani, Top Grade Vocalist, Composer and Art Promoter, Chairman, The Kashmir Music Club Srinagar, expresses deep concern over the continued posting of officers with little or no understanding of art and culture at the J&K Academy of Art, Culture & Languages. This approach is an outright insult to the artists of Jammu and Kashmir and a serious threat to the region’s cultural heritage.
The Academy is already suffering due to poor leadership and lack of cultural sensitivity. Adding more such officers only worsens the situation. Culture cannot be administered by ignorance. It requires knowledge, sensitivity and respect for tradition.
An immediate reshuffle and complete overhaul of the Academy is urgently needed. Failure to act will lead to irreversible damage to this prestigious institution and to the artistic legacy of Jammu and Kashmir.
