This article has been written by the students from university of Kashmir on their personal experience and no source has been extracted from any website or any book or any other type of resource. The country is witnessing nationwide activism, multiple number of student, organizations are dealing with different issues which are prevailing in the society and working on them more profoundly. Students have set up a lot of examples in correcting the decisions of the society, sometimes a society may be wrong or right but there is another thing that is the power of activism either leaded by students or by some influential personalities. There are different kinds of organizations which are becked by some political parties and the same political parties are urging them to work on the same agendas which could help them in their elections as manifestation of their win. The whole scenario is like that when a party is in power their organizations appreciate their moves either they are wrong or right, no one will tell you this how these moves are made but this is the reality which all the readers should be known to.These organizations are just the playcards and a curse on the name of activism and it is totally due to the movements which they make and which they sometimes appreciate. But this type of activism should not be appreciated at any cost. Some persons just bring their approaches and become heroes by just clicking a simple photograph without doing anything for the society which needs the persons so that their condition could be corrected and the condition of the deprived class could be marked correct.
I am not totally arguing that all the organizations are becked by some political parties , there are some organizations which are autonomous which set their portfolios on a simple majority without indulging in any type of politics. These type of organizations are wholly devoted to the society and working on the social issues and then correcting them totally , this could be called as the activism and the results that come out of it are the real proofs of activism and there comes out a space which transparently shows that the real spirit of activism is still alive.
There are some parts in India which witness a glimpse of activism but at the same time there is totally a different image of activism. That type of activism is restricted to some spaces and some movements that authorities don’t allow to initiate they totally cut out the roots that lead to some social change. We are not saying that this has always a negative impact on activism but only thing that is resulting is that the authorities are restricting any social change to happen and nothing else .I am witnessed to a lot of activities that could result to a different change and a real spirit of activism could emerge and a different image of activism could have been spotted.
Umer Khalid has been a prominent image as an activist and he has worked hard to prove that activism is a key either to make a change or to die. He has been in various controversial issues that left him untold but he emerged as a fire to exhalt those issues which proved disastrous to the society. He is considered as the father of activism in India.
Student activism is not a dirty word every student has the moral responsibility to be an engaged citizen, express views on social issues, and work towards the betterment of society. Students are not just the harbingers of the future; they are also pivotal participants in the construction of the present. In a voluminous democracy like India, students at colleges and universities represent the endeavor, erudition and energy that a composite polity requires in order to hold power to account and sustain a comprehensive dialogue between the governing and the governed. To silence students is to stifle an essential component of the democratic framework and usher in the politics of authoritarianism. Yet that is exactly what is happening in India.
We all know that we are restricted to some boundries and yes definitely we have the solutions for that and to encourage a real spirit of activism. When someone tries to encourage the spirit its upto that person how he will play his role and yes if he is on the right track and on the right procedure he can control the behavior he is trying to achieve. As always there arises a questions that why activism is considered a dirty word its because that a proper procedure is not followed and yes there should be a proper legislation that can control the working of the activism .In different states legislations have been drafted and passed but only for the restrictions on the activism and not to encourage the real faces of activism.
There are solutions to motivate activism all our country not only the name of activism but also the practical face of activism.
Firstly, government should enact laws which could easily mention the rules and regulations of the activism and a proper procedure could be followed and a smooth functioning could be followed so that the ends of activism could be achieved.
Secondly, authorities should encourage the students and conduct workshops for the working of activism and to teach the whole procedure of activism.
Parliament should enact laws for the activism and yes partial autonomy should be given to the associations with positive propaganda and yes there should be restrictions for the same so that the power could not be misused.
programs should be conducted on daily basis in public places and we should organize public gatherings to make awareness among the people about the activism, so that public morale could be boosted and a different image about the activism could be changed. There is a different image about the activism among the people and among the government that is why the government is not allowing the activities of the activism.Government is strictly working on the restrictions on the activism across the country.
Proper implementation of the rules and regulations should be exercised all over the states so that the peaceful environment could be retained among the states.
There should be a local law for the specific states which witness the harsh conditions during or after the protests. These could be the ways which can help in the proper implementation of laws related to activism and no scuffles could be given any chance to intervene in the smooth functioning of the activism.
Six year Assam movement (1979- 1985) led by the AASU against foreign citizens was the most sustained student movement in Northeast India. It became the reference point of other students’ movements in Northeast India. Formally, the students’ organisations in the Northeast are generally not part of party politics. It has been seen that northeast states have worked on the student movement more rigorously and they reached to a definite conclusion that being an association of a political party and then working on the agendas of same political party is purely a humiliation and they decided not to be humiliated as by this they have ended the authoritative structure of associations.
Also the role of the students in Quid India Movement was compatible to speak for as these students were involved in non-violent political activities such as organizing protests and demonstrations to demand the release of the leaders arrested abruptly by the government and demanding immediate independence for India.
Also, Delhi has been a witnessing state which experiences the protests by student organizations on a lot of issues likewise CAA NRC, GUJRAT DOCUMENTARY,VHP Bajrang, FARMERS PROTESTS etc. These are the latest issues and protests which took place in Delhi and these all were encouraged and supported by students only, but the government did not took any active part in this instead of solving the problems by the government it only crushed these movements which is not the work of the government.
Instead of encouraging the moves that young minds are active and involving in these activities and are actively participating in such movements that could correct the conditions prevailing in the society, government is just crushing these movements, it clearly depicts that government is simply making a mockery of these issues and only depressing the class of students who urge the government to interfere in those matters which are prevailing in the society.
We can simply say that instead of encouraging the student activism authorities are just crushing the movements of those students who have devoted their life to the society and just working on the development of the society. Almost all the young minds are devoted to the society because in today’s age young minds are more society centered and motivated to help and work for the society so that society could develop. We are still living in a superstitious society , those things are believed that not even exist and in such society more and more defects and problems arise then a society meets unusual ends.
