Congress leader Kadfeen Choudhary on Wednesday demanded lifting of curbs on public transport in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that the lockdown restrictions have severely affected the livelihood of the transporters in both the regions.

Kadfeen in a statement said that when the government is throwing open public parks and gardens and even asking employees to resume duties, one wonders why it is adamant in keeping the public transport banned. He said that it is ironic to find that the government is not taking a holistic view towards the plethora of hardships being faced by the transports amid the present pandemic and how the constant closure of the public transport is taking a toll upon their livelihood.

Kadfeen said that it is high time when the government must address the crises in hand and allow the transporters to operate without any hindrance. “There are reservations that the representatives of the transporters have submitted before the government. The authorities are duty bound to listen to those reservations and address the issue amicably instead of adopting a confrontational attitude,” said Kadfeen.

He maintained further that the government should hold consultations with the stakeholders in order to allow this aggrieved class to earn livelihood sans any hindrance.
