Jammu, February 18: MLA Tanvir Sadiq on Tuesday raised a series of critical public issues in the Legislative Assembly during the discussion on the Chief Minister’s Grants, calling for transparency, accountability and structural reforms in governance.
Sadiq flagged what he termed as “systematic discrimination” against leading newspapers in the allocation of government advertisements. He alleged that credible and widely read publications were being sidelined, while lesser-known outlets were being favoured. “Public funds must support credibility, not proximity,” he asserted, demanding an urgent review of the 2020 Advertisement Policy.
The MLA also expressed serious concern over the reported disappearance of a historic Czechoslovakian chandelier from the revered Hazratbal Shrine, seeking an immediate investigation and accountability in the matter.
Highlighting Srinagar’s mounting garbage crisis, Sadiq strongly advocated for the adoption of the Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF) model to address solid waste management challenges. He further pressed for expedited rehabilitation of Dal Lake residents, dedicated urban funding for Srinagar, promotion of vertical housing, and key institutional reforms to strengthen civic infrastructure.
Congratulating the Jammu and Kashmir cricket team for their historic entry into the Ranji Trophy final, Sadiq said the achievement has made the Union Territory proud and represents “a moment of hope and resurgence.”
He reaffirmed his commitment to raising people’s concerns on the Assembly floor and ensuring transparency, fairness and dignity in governance | Kashmir Pen
