Teenager drowns in Budgam stream, search operation underway

A teenager boy drowned in a stream in Arigam village of Khansahib in central Kashmir’s Budgam district on Wednesday.

District Police Budgam along with SDRF team has launched a search operation to trace the youth’s body.

The teenager whom police identified as Irfan Ahmad Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, a local resident drowned in the stream yesterday.

A police spokesperson said that a rescue operation was soon launched along with locals to trace the youth’s body.

Later, a SDRF team was also called in for the operation.

The rescue operation was called off late last night around 2300 hrs due to darkness and the same was resumed early this morning around 6:30 am, police said.

Three teams of SDRF and River Police Srinagar fully equipped with boats and other necessary gadgetry are assisting Police and administration in the search operation, it added.
