When I witness the relentless struggle of our educated, gifted, and exceptionally brilliant minds, my heart shatters. The scourge of unemployment and underemployment has ravaged their lives, plunging them into a sea of despondency and despair. For these young people, years of relentless hard work, sacrifice, and sleepless nights have yielded nothing but shattered dreams, a bleak future, and the crushing weight of disappointment.

A Harrowing Reality

Imagine dedicating your entire being—every waking moment, every drop of sweat, every ounce of passion—to acquiring knowledge, skills, and experience, only to face rejection, frustration, and financial struggles that threaten to erode your dreams. These struggles do not just affect the pocketbook; they strike at the very soul. Marriage, once envisioned as a milestone of joy and partnership, becomes an unbearable burden as the pressure to provide mounts. A sense of failure overshadows once-bright futures, making every celebration feel hollow and every accomplishment seem irrelevant in the face of financial instability.

For many, the recruitment process—a long-standing beacon of hope and promise—has devolved into a nightmare. The shadow of politics and favoritism looms large, corrupting the hiring process and allowing less qualified candidates to secure positions while brilliant minds are ignored and discarded like yesterday’s news. This absurdity has sadly become a normalized, almost institutionalized problem in both the public and private sectors. The deserving candidates, those who have poured their lives into their work and education, suffer in silence, their talents wasting away as they face rejection after rejection, their dreams growing dimmer by the day.

A Painful Incident of Injustice

I recall a heart-wrenching incident that compelled me to shed light on this issue. A highly qualified individual, a diamond in the rough, applied for a prestigious position. Despite meeting and exceeding every requirement, he was summarily rejected due to blatant favoritism. Meanwhile, the hired candidate, woefully underqualified, had simply relied on connections to secure the position. This injustice isn’t an isolated occurrence; it’s a recurring narrative that has tainted the entire recruitment process. Such experiences leave talented, educated youth feeling not only discouraged but utterly betrayed.
The repercussions of this issue are wide-reaching. The youth, desperate for stability and a sense of purpose, are often driven towards destructive activities out of sheer frustration and hopelessness. Anxiety, depression, and desperation creep in, casting a dark shadow over what should be the most promising years of their lives. How long will we allow this vicious cycle to continue?

The Toll on Families and Society

Families are the unsung victims of this crisis. They endure the anguish of seeing their loved ones suffer in silence, their once-bright spirits now dulled by despair. Relationships crumble under the pressure, and mental health deteriorates. Young adults who dreamed of contributing to society and building a life of purpose find themselves trapped in a cycle of stagnation. The financial and emotional toll is immense, leading many to question their self-worth and wonder if they will ever fulfill their potential.
When these youth cannot find their footing, the entire society suffers. Potential innovators, educators, doctors, and leaders languish in despair instead of advancing our communities and economies. The fabric of our society is compromised as we lose some of our most promising individuals to this flawed system, unable to utilize their talents, skills, and aspirations.
The Root Causes: Nepotism and Cronyism

The crux of the issue lies in the pervasive influence of nepotism and cronyism. The influence of personal connections, rather than merit, has infiltrated both government and private sectors, leading to a system where talent is overshadowed by personal favors. In this environment, the recruitment process is less about skills and more about “who you know,” fostering an environment of mediocrity. This environment suffocates merit, allowing corruption to flourish.
This broken system fails to recognize the best and brightest and instead rewards those with connections. Qualified candidates are unfairly denied opportunities that rightfully belong to them. Nepotism and favoritism, often disguised as “networking,” turn the hiring process into a theater of absurdity, where talent, hard work, and dedication are constantly undervalued. Meanwhile, unqualified individuals who secure these positions often lack the drive, commitment, and expertise to truly excel.
A Call for Revolution: A Merit-Based System

The time has come to demand change. We must reform this broken system to restore dignity and hope to our educated youth. The recruitment process must be overhauled, placing the highest value on Merit, Transparency, and Fairness:

1. Merit: It’s time to return to a system that rewards talent, hard work, and dedication. Every candidate should be evaluated on their skills, experience, and potential contributions, ensuring that the most deserving individuals are chosen.

2. Transparency: Shine a light on the recruitment process. Organizations must adopt clear and transparent hiring practices, with measurable criteria for every position. Every step of the recruitment process should be documented and accessible, preventing favoritism and ensuring accountability.

3. Fairness: Equal opportunity should be the cornerstone of the recruitment process. Every individual, regardless of background, connections, or social status, should have an equal chance to succeed. Fairness is not only a moral imperative but a practical one. A fair system is a productive system, one that encourages growth and innovation by fostering a diverse, capable workforce.
A Unified Movement Toward Change

Change cannot happen in isolation; it requires a collective effort. We must join forces, from policymakers and business leaders to educators and community organizers, to demand a better system. A system rooted in fairness, transparency, and meritocracy is essential for a prosperous and thriving society. Organizations that prioritize these values are more likely to succeed and grow, creating a positive cycle that will benefit not only the youth but society as a whole.
Let us not forget that the future of our brightest minds is hanging in the balance. Every day that we tolerate this injustice is a day lost for those who could be our future innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders. We owe it to our educated minds to provide them with a future filled with hope, purpose, and opportunity. The unending agony of unemployment and underemployment demands urgent attention.
Breaking the Silence

We must listen to the cries of those affected and act decisively. Reforming recruitment and upholding meritocracy can restore dignity and hope to our educated youth. Together, we can create a society where talent thrives, potential is realized, and dreams are fulfilled. It’s no longer a question of when; the time to act is now.
The Cost of Inaction

If we continue to ignore the cries of the afflicted, we risk losing a generation of talented individuals whose potential will remain forever untapped. Every young person denied an opportunity due to corruption or favoritism is a loss not only to their family but to our entire society. The consequences of inaction are dire: the erosion of trust in institutions, a declining economy, and a society that increasingly loses faith in justice.
Conclusion: A Call to Arms

Inaction is no longer an option. The future of our nation, our economy, and our way of life depends on addressing this issue head-on. We can no longer afford to wait, to hesitate, or to ignore the cries of our struggling youth. We must rise, unite, and demand the changes that will lead us toward a fair, just, and prosperous future.

Silence must be broken. Action must be taken. Together, we have the power to make a difference and pave the way for a brighter tomorrow.
