Srinagar, Apr 24: In a bid to boost domestic tourism in Jammu & Kashmir and Northeast regions, the Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has intensified its efforts through a series of promotional initiatives under its Domestic Promotion and Publicity including Hospitality (DPPH) scheme.
According to the Annual Report 2025-26 by the Ministry of Tourism, domestic tourism plays a key role in the overall development of the tourism sector. The Ministry undertakes various promotional activities with the objective of increasing domestic tourist visits, primarily aimed at raising awareness about tourism destinations and products, with a focus on priority areas like the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir.
The DPPH scheme aims to increase general awareness among the domestic population about varied tourist destinations, including lesser-known and potential spots. Priority has been given to regions like Jammu & Kashmir to attract more visitors and strengthen local economies.
The Ministry has allowed an extra tour beyond the existing three under its programmes for visits to states in the Northeast, Jammu & Kashmir, and Ladakh. This move is expected to enhance exposure and promotional coverage of these regions.
The government has also relaxed norms for recognition of tourism service providers, including startups, travel agents, and transport operators operating in these priority areas. The relaxation covers requirements related to paid-up capital, annual turnover, and office space, aiming to encourage wider participation and ease of doing business in the sector.
Officials said the measures are part of a broader strategy to strengthen domestic tourism infrastructure and positioning, while ensuring inclusive growth across regions with high tourism potential.
