Srinagar, June 30 : At a time when traders are up in arms against the implementation of Goods and Tax Services (GST) regime in Jammu and Kashmir, over 40,000 traders from State have already secured Provisional Identification Number and Password to facilitate their continuation of business operations under Goods and Service Tax.
“PIN and Password have been provided to more than 40,000 traders till date. This PIN and Password can be used when traders will login their business portal. In short traders can use this PIN and Password to update their current information on the GST portal having URL www.gst.gov.in,” Additional Commissioner Department of Commercial Taxes Dr Shameed Ahmed told Current News Service.
He said that those traders who submitted their PAN cards have already secured the Provisional Identification Number and Password to run their business operations under GST.
Sources said that majority of the trade leaders spearheading campaign against the implementation of GST regime have already possessed Provisional Identification Number and Password to facilitate their continuation of business operations under Goods and Service Tax.
Ironically, president Kashmir Economic Alliance Muhammad Yasin Khan who called for a shutdown on Saturday against the implementation of GST regime has also possessed the Provisional Identification Number to run his business under contentious GST.
“We were really surprised when we came to know that some top businessmen who oppose the idea of GST regime have already submitted their PAN card numbers to get Provisional Identification Numbers. This is embarrassing. On the one hand you are up in arms against the idea of GST regime and are asking the traders community to get united and oppose the implementation of GST in Jammu and Kashmir while on the other hand you have already got the PIN number for doing business under controversial GST. This is sheer duplicity,” said a renowed businessman to CNS.
