One-way traffic on the 434 km long Srinagar-Leh highway connecting Kashmir Valley with Ladakh Union Territory was restored on Saturday after five days. The highway was closed to traffic on November 23 after heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass and Drass area.
“The Srinagar-Leh highway has been reopened for one-way traffic on Saturday and vehicles have been allowed to leave Srinagar from Ladakh” a traffic police official said.
He added that due to avalanches , the traffic on the highway was closed for some time but the Border Roads Organization immediately deployed machinery and staff to make the highway travelable.
He informed that vehicles from Sonamarg in District Ganderbal would leave for Ladakh from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
He however added that no vehicle would be allowed to drive on the highway after 3 o’clock. He added that the same schedule has been set for the security forces.
Due to the closing of the highway there was an extreme inflation in prices of essential commodities
