Police here have arrested a truck driver with around 18 kg of poppy, officials said.

A police team stopped the truck at a checkpoint in Kahna Chak area of the district yesterday evening and found the poppy during inspection.

The truck driver was arrested and a case was registered at Kahna Chak police station.

During preliminary inquiry it came to light that the accused is from Rajouri district of Jammu and was going to sell the stash, police said.

Poppy is a source of the crude drug opium which is used as a medicinal and recreational drug.
