Two dead, one injured in Shopian cold store blast

Shopian, Apr 30 : Two persons lost their lives and one other was injured after a steam boiler explosion at a cold storage facility in the Aglar Pinjura area of Shopian on Wednesday late evening, officials said.

An official told the news agency that the blast occurred at Zum Zum Cold Store in the fruit mandi while a steam boiler was under repair.

He said that three engineers sustained injuries in the incident and were shifted to District Hospital Shopian for treatment.

He said one injured, identified as Saurabh Singh from Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, succumbed to his injuries on arrival, while two others, Raj Kumar and Shiv Kumar, were being treated.

During the night, Shiv Kumar also succumbed to his injuries, taking the death toll to two, while the condition of Raj Kumar is said to be critical, he said.

Officials said the men were repairing the boiler when it suddenly exploded. An investigation has been taken up.—(KNO)
