SRINAGAR 23 May : Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday arrested two alleged drug peddlers during naka checking in the Kokernag area and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police party from Police Station Kokernag intercepted the duo at Panzgam during routine naka checking after they were seen moving suspiciously in the area. On being signalled to stop, both individuals attempted to flee but were apprehended on the spot by the police party.
The accused have been identified as Aijaz Ahmad Wani, son of Sana Ullah Wani, and Rouf Ahmad Bhat, son of Mohd Maqbool Bhat, both residents of Panzgam, Kokernag. During their search, police recovered approximately 584 grams of a ganja-like substance and around 67 grams of a charas-like substance from their possession.
Following the recovery, FIR No. 57/2026 under Sections 8/20 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Kokernag, and further investigation has been initiated.
Police said efforts against drug trafficking will continue in line with its zero-tolerance approach and appealed to the public to share information related to drug-related activities.
