Education is premise of every society in every civilization. It guides and directs the mood of society towards progressive and enlightened future.The attributes of society are shaped by its achievement on educational standards. This directs the human course of action to put the things in systematic order. It establishes relationship standards and helps in attainment of society’s goals. In fact the educational parameter is a coil of snake around whi h revolves the development of societal attributes. The educational makeup widens scope for serious analysis of human course of action. The contradiction of Thiesis and Anti Thiesis stops at very synthesis of education being cornerstone of society. It provides the formal and conventional means of acquiring knowledge of various subjects. It is generally guided by set rules and procedure in an integrated and hierarchical manner. This orientation includes specific norms and standards to be followed in practice. In India this task is usually performed by UGC(university grants commission ) ,holding widespread powers for regulation of higher education in academic pursuit. It had evolved an annual procedure of classes followed on by examination to claim the passage of degree at said level. However the induction of Semester model in Graduation course of J and K is failing miserably to come on expectations of aspiring students.
Conventionally the Graduation courses required 3 years with annual examination at the end of year. But the trend was modified with induction of Semester system in midway of year to claim the Bachelor’s degree from Kashmir University. The semester system was inducted with lot of aspirations and hopes to improvise on quality of education.This model requires due diligence and intense commitment on student level with back to back regular rechecking of education level. And the regular attendance of classes to improve teacher pupil interaction for better training of mental faculty in students. However as is said “ when the old order is destructed without adequate replacement , Thucydides trap is the outcome in place”. This was proved very well by inducing semester system in Graduation course.The semester wise evaluation of annual segment is examined at twin levels half yearly in nip and tuck orientation with professional courses like MBBS and Engineering.
The initiation of Semester model in 2015 proved detrimental to the target of students. They aspired completion of graduation following normal tenure of three years.The students registered for UG programme batch 2015 are in great turmoil as they don’t know where their career is going.This is the fourth year and their course which was supposed to be completed within three years is still unfinished.The students who wanted to pursue their PG degrees from outside the state has to go under one year lose as the admission procedure are already under process outside the state.The university has come up with a new notice of taking the 5th and 6th-semester exam in last week of June but the syllabus is vast and can’t be completed within the time limit.Students want to give their exams as early as possible but at the same time demand 50% concession in their syllabus as was done to the students of 10 and 12 in 2016.The backlog exams from 2nd-semesters are still pending which should also be taken as soon as possible and declare their results without any delay. This systemic failure of university speaks volumes about the strategy adopted from last few years.The mismatch of course completion between internal and external universities and the incapacity of internal institutions therein has created an atmosphere of despair.
The age-old UGC institutional mechanism seems insufficient to fulfill aspirations of teeming millions. As the students with bundle of hopes were left in a bad shape. There’s a need of urgent and immediate interference for early completion of graduation courses.The career of our nation builders in their finishing stage of basic qualification is in shambles.There’s a need to streamline the institutional capacity in tune to the future course of action. The students should be capable to get admission in post graduation courses without spoilage of a fruitful year of the career in doldrums. This impacts their mental faculty and leads to deterioration of quality of literacy. The institutional gap and mismatch between graduate and Post graduate course completion impedes the normal course of procedure. The burden of students shall be siphoned away through prompt action by university management for the betterment of students. The semester heavyweight may collapse under its rigid procedure in quick succession if not taken care off. The reorientation of whole model with set procedure and control may add grace to this novel idea. Let’s hope to get some bolt from blue ……
