Jammu and Kashmir police on Thursday seized a vehicle loaded with illegal timber in Aloosa village of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. A senior police officer told news agency, that a vehicle bearing registration number JKO4A- 4353 loaded with illegal timber was seized near Paribal police chowki by a team of police.
He said that a tata mobile carrying illegal timber was being smuggled out from the Aloosa village when police intercepted them. “The vehicle was seized but the smugglers managed to escape from the spot,” he added. “A case under relevant sections of law has been registered at police chowki Paribal and investigation into the matter has been initiated,” he said.
Meanwhile, locals alleged that the loot of green gold is rampant in Aloosa area of Bandipora forest division. They said that the officials of forest department have failed to act against sumgglers involved in chopping down green trees. Pertinently, Bandipora division is witnessing ruthless deforestation as timber mafias are active in cutting prized Deodar and Kail trees in the forests. ( KNO )
