SRINAGAR, August 17: The Jammu and Kashmir region is expected to experience widespread rainfall over the next 24 hours as a fresh Western Disturbance interacts with the ongoing monsoon system, according to the Meteorological Department.
Officials said the combined effect of these two weather systems is likely to trigger moderate to heavy showers across most parts of the Union Territory, with higher intensity predicted in south and central Kashmir, Pir Panjal ranges, and parts of Jammu region.
The downpour may lead to a temporary rise in water levels in local streams and rivers, while also increasing the risk of landslides and shooting stones along vulnerable stretches of the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway and hilly terrains.
Farmers have been advised to suspend farm operations temporarily, and travelers are urged to remain cautious amid possible disruptions. The MeT office has also recommended that authorities stay alert for any eventualities related to flash floods in low-lying areas.
The wet spell is expected to bring a significant drop in daytime temperatures, offering relief from the prevailing humid conditions across the Valley.
