Wildlife Warden, Wetlands, Department of Wildlife Protection on Thursday issued a public notice against offenders over the illegal hunting of migratory birds.

“This is to inform the general public that illegal hunting of migratory birds in and around the wetlands is a serious offense under Section 9 of the Wildlife Protection Act. Strict action will be taken against violators under Sections 50 and 51 of the Act,” Wildlife Warden, Wetlands, Department of Wildlife Protection, said in a public notice issued today.

Additionally, it said individuals carrying firearms within a 10-kilometer radius of a Wildlife Sanctuary or National Park are required to register their fire arms with the Department of Wildlife Protection, as mandated by Section 34 of the Wildlife Protection Act.

“It has been observed that many offenders claim ignorance of these regulations. Please note that illegal hunting of migratory birds is punishable by imprisonment of up to three years, or fine up to Rs 1 lakh or both penalties, depending on the severity of the offense,” it said.
