As the festival of lights, Diwali, approaches, a group of dedicated women in Mishri-Wala village in Jammu, are setting an inspiring example by crafting eco-friendly cow dung Diyas to celebrate the occasion. These women are not only embracing the spirit of Diwali but also championing sustainable traditions that harmonize with the environment.

With Diwali, the festival of lights, around the corner, the air in Mishri-Wala is filled with a sense of excitement and enthusiasm. However, this year, the celebration has taken on a unique and eco-conscious twist as a group of local women have embarked on a mission to create sustainable Diyas using cow dung.

Rekha Sharma, one of the women leading the initiative, expressed the motivation behind the project, saying, “We wanted to celebrate Diwali with a deep connection to our roots and nature. The idea of crafting Diyas from cow dung not only pays homage to our cultural traditions but also promotes eco-friendliness. It’s a win-win.”

The women are meticulously crafting these eco-friendly Diyas by collecting and drying cow dung, and then shaping it into beautiful and intricately designed oil lamps. They are also experimenting with various colors and patterns to add a touch of vibrancy to the traditional Diyas.

These eco-friendly Diyas not only reduce the environmental impact but also provide a source of livelihood for the women involved.”

The project has not only attracted attention locally but has also garnered appreciation on social media, inspiring others to embrace eco-friendly practices during the festive season. The women hope that their initiative will serve as a model for more sustainable and environmentally conscious Diwali celebrations in the future.

In a world where environmental concerns are paramount, the women of Mishri-Wala village have shown that embracing tradition can coexist with responsible ecological practices. As Diwali approaches, their eco-friendly cow dung Diyas are a shining example of how to celebrate a festival while respecting the environment.

As the Diwali festival draws near, the women of Mishri-Wala continue to craft their unique Diyas, illuminating not only their homes but also the path towards a more sustainable and eco-friendly celebration of this cherished festival of lights.
