On the occasion of World Tuberculosis Day 2026, Office of the Chief Medical Officer Samba, in collaboration with the ELFA International, organized a significant awareness and outreach programme at the Conference Hall of the District Administrative Complex, Samba, aimed at supporting tuberculosis patients and strengthening public health efforts in the district.
The event was graced by Ms. Ayushi Sudhan, Deputy Commissioner Samba, as the Chief Guest. Present on the occasion were Mr. Nawab Mehran Khan, President and CEO, ELFA International, Mr. Iftikhar Ahmad Mir, Vice President ELFA International, along with other members of the organization. The distinguished dignitaries included the Assistant Commissioner Revenue (ACR), Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD), Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Assistant Director (AD), District Social Welfare Officer, District Panchayat Officer, District Programme Officer (ICDS), and the Chief Medical Officer Samba.
At the outset, the Chief Medical Officer Samba welcomed the participants and presented an overview of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), highlighting ongoing efforts and the roadmap under TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan – Phase II.
As part of its continued commitment to public health, ELFA International contributed 50 Nikshay Poshan Kits, which were distributed among tuberculosis patients by the Deputy Commissioner. This nutritional support initiative will continue for a period of six months, reinforcing the importance of sustained care during treatment.
To promote awareness, a Nukkad Natak (street play) by the Sargam Group conveyed powerful messages on tuberculosis prevention, stigma reduction, and treatment adherence. TB Champions also shared their recovery journeys, inspiring the audience and reinforcing trust in the healthcare system.
On the occasion, Ms. Ayushi Sudhan felicitated Panchayats declared TB-free, recognizing their contribution towards achieving public health milestones.
In her address, Ms. Ayushi Sudhan appreciated the collaborative efforts and stated:
“Tuberculosis continues to be a major public health challenge. Initiatives like these, supported by organizations such as ELFA International, are vital in strengthening patient care, awareness, and community participation. Sustained and collective action is essential to achieve a TB-free district.”
In his remarks, Mr. Nawab Mehran Khan reiterated:
“ELFA International remains committed to working alongside the administration and the community. Our initiative of providing nutritional support reflects our belief that effective TB care must go beyond treatment and include sustained assistance for patients.”
The event also marked the launch of Phase II of the 100 Days TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, reaffirming the district’s commitment towards the national goal of tuberculosis elimination.
The programme concluded with a renewed pledge by all stakeholders to strengthen coordinated efforts and work collectively towards a TB-free Samba District.
