The 8th World Wildlife Day – 2021 is being essentially celebrated to raise awareness about animals and plants and livelihood of about 200 and 350 million people who live within or adjacent to forest areas and rely on that for their most basic needs, including food, shelter, energy and medicines”.However, globally we are recording progressive decline in Wildlife population, greater threat of extinction to endangered fauna and flora including some of our own species namely Hangul ,snow leopard, Asiatic Ibex, Black & Brown Bear,Tibetan Gazelle, Markhor, Musk Deer etc.

This has resulted in Wild animal population having gone down by more than 50% in last 40 years or so. For us the most tragic loss has been our own “ Hangul” whose number has gone down from 5000+ a few decades ago to less than 200.Moreover, we have been witnessing recurring incidents of man-animal conflict with our people killing wildlife with impunity. Let us not forget that Allah created wildlife before creating Adam. So flora and fauna have an equal , if not better, right of existence on earth than humans. Let us acknowledge it and try to be be humane with them.

On this day let us remind ourselves that apart from loosing a substantial part of natural resources- the “Hangul”-our identity will soon be an extinct species . Hence , History , said Faiz Bakshi in a statement.
