Yoga week celebration: Commissioner Secretary HED presents Awards to Winners of Divisional Level Competitions

The weeklong event for commemoration of 6th International Yoga Day -2020 organized by Government PG college for Women, Gandhi Nagar, under the aegis of Higher Education Department, concluded today, here with Prize Distribution to the winners by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education Department, Talat Parvez Rohella.

For Divisional level Perfect Asana Web Competition, 228 entries from different colleges and Universities of Jammu division were received and adjudged by a committee comprising Dr. D L Choudhary, Sanjeev Kumar, Dr. Vinod Bakshi, Dr. Roopali and Ramandeep Kralia. The Committee was constituted by Director Colleges.

Dipinjeet Singh of SPMR College of Commerce, and Seema Thakur of Government PG College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, were adjudged winners in UG Male and Female categories.

Similarly, Sandeep Sharma, Department of Sanskrit and Deepali Khajuria, Department of Physical Education, University of Jammu, were winners in PG Male and Female category.

The winners were awarded educational gadget Kindle Book by Commissioner Secretary Higher Education.
The winners were adorned a “Yoga Champions” and other participants of the competition as Yoga Ambassadors.

The Secretary also announced to introduce yoga as skill/elective course in all the colleges and universities of UT of J&K adding that yoga plays a very important role for healthy mind and is a pro vital for younger generation.

For divisional level Online Essay Writing Competition on the Topic “Yoga-key to Wellness”, received 46 entries from different colleges on the basis of intra college competition organized in each college.

The medium of the language was Hindi/English/ Urdu. The entries were adjudged by a team of 6 Jury members comprising Prof. Geetanjali Multani, Prof A.K Raina, Prof. Daljeet Verma, Prof. Sandhya Bhardwaj, Prof. Renu Nanda and Prof Liaqat Jafri.

The cash prize of Rs. 10,000, Rs. 7000, and Rs. 5000 was awarded to Sahil Choudhary, Anjali Nanda and Shuvam Mankotia of GCET Jammu, GCW Bhagwati Nagar and GDC Bilawar for securing First, Second and Third position respectively.

The twin events were coordinated by organizing committee comprising of Prof. Mala Bhasin, Prof. Shivani Sharma, Dr. Revika Arora, Dr. Neelima Gupta, Prof. Suman Bala, Prof Rakesh Mohan Dutt and Dr.Roopali Slathia under the guidance and patronship of Principal Dr. Ravender Tickoo on the theme “Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family” for the year 2020.

Prize distribution function was conducted in EDUSAT HUB with the support of Hub Engineer S. Harneet Singh, maintaining social distancing norms. Report of the event was presented by the Convener Prof. Mala Bhasin.

Principal SPMR College Prof. Ranjeet Singh, Principal GDC Billawar Prof. Sunil Uppal and other staff members were also present. Programme was compared by Prof .Revika Arora and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. Shivani Sharma.
