Prof. Marghoob Banihali remembered for his poetic and spiritual legacy

Srinagar, October 12(k pen) A grand literary event titled “Youm-e-Marghoob” was held at Tagore Hall, Srinagar, in memory of the eminent poet, thinker, and educationist Prof. Marghoob Banihali .
Organized by the Marghoob Foundation Srinagar under the patronage of Adbi Markaz Kamraz J&K, the event brought together writers, poets, and cultural personalities from across the Valley.
The programme began with a recitation of Kalaam-e-Marghoob by young artist Hanzala Hussain Saqib and his team, followed by the Adbi Markaz Kamraz anthem, composed by Prof. Banihali himself.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. Mushtaq Marghoob, Chairman of the Foundation and son of the late poet, said the organization aims to preserve and transmit Prof. Banihali’s intellectual and spiritual heritage to the younger generation, helping them stay connected with Kashmiri language, culture, and values.
The function was presided over by Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, former Vice-Chancellor of IUST, who described Prof. Banihali as “a symbol of an intellectual movement who infused Kashmiri poetry with faith, truth, and social awakening.”
Delivering the keynote address, Prof. Shad Ramzan, Convener of Sahitya Akademi’s Kashmiri Advisory Board, said Prof. Banihali’s poetry gave Kashmiri literature “a distinct philosophical direction rooted in Sufi thought and humanism.”
The ‘Khil’at-e-Marghoob 2025’ award was conferred upon noted historian Dr. Abdul Ahad, while Muneera Marghoob’s poetry collection “Muzar Khayalan Hund” was released on the occasion to wide appreciation.
Mohammad Amin Bhat, President of Adbi Markaz Kamraz, highlighted Prof. Banihali’s long association with the organization, noting that his creative vision deepened the link between literature and spirituality.
Prof. Mushtaq Ahmad Siddiqi, Prof. Shad Ramzan, Shabnam Tilgami, and Jameel Ansari were felicitated for their contributions to literature and culture, while Hanzala Hussain was honored for his achievements in music.
The event was compered by Shabnam Tilgami, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Tariq Marghoob, who expressed gratitude to all participants and guests | Kashmir Pen
