Budgam, July 17 : In a significant step towards combating drug abuse, local youth from Chainabal Mirgund joined hands with the Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday to launch a bhang (wild cannabis) destruction drive in the area.

Officials told news agency JKNS that the anti-narcotics drive witnessed active participation of local volunteers, who assisted police teams in uprooting and destroying large patches of wild cannabis plants growing in and around Chainabal.

“This is part of our broader anti-drug campaign aimed at eliminating narcotics at the grassroots level,” a police official involved in the operation said, adding that community cooperation is key in the success of such initiatives.

The campaign also served as a platform for spreading awareness about the harmful effects of drug use, particularly among the youth population. Local residents praised the drive, calling it a positive and much-needed move in the fight against addiction.

Authorities have appealed to residents of neighbouring villages to report illegal cannabis cultivation and cooperate with police in similar operations to be carried out across other parts of Budgam and Baramulla in the coming days.
