SDRF Team Rushed to Spot; Rescue Efforts to Intensify After Water Level Recedes

GANDERBAL, June 28 (KNC): An 18-year-old unmarried girl, whose identity has been withheld, reportedly slipped and fell into a power canal at Thune in Central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Sunday, officials and local sources said.

According to reports, the girl accidentally fell into the canal while she was near the site. She was only a few months away from her marriage, making the incident all the more tragic for her family and relatives.

Soon after the incident, personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, including officials from Police Station Kangan, along with local residents, reached the spot and launched initial rescue efforts. However, due to the high water level and strong current in the canal, rescue teams are awaiting a reduction in the water flow before entering the canal to conduct an intensive search.

An State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team is also on its way to the scene to assist in the rescue operation. Officials said that once the water level recedes, the SDRF personnel and other rescue teams will enter the canal and intensify the search operation to trace the missing girl.

Further details are awaited as the rescue operation continues. (KNC)
