Awantipora, October 10: A two-day conference on “Technological Intervention in the Promotion of Kashmiri Language” concluded at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST), Awantipora, on Thursday. The event brought together prominent Kashmiri language experts, who presented innovative solutions aimed at preserving and promoting the mother tongue through technological tools.

Renowned Kashmiri poet, writer, and social activist, Zareef Ahmad Zareef, served as the chief guest. He passionately urged individuals to take responsibility for safeguarding the Kashmiri language, emphasizing the critical role of digital platforms in connecting younger generations to their linguistic heritage. Sharing personal anecdotes, Zareef underscored the importance of using technology to keep the language alive in an increasingly globalized world.

Special guest Dr. Maroof Shah, a respected author, echoed this sentiment, stressing the need to revitalize the Kashmiri language. “Kashmiri authors consistently show eagerness to participate in conferences focused on promoting our language,” he remarked, highlighting the deep-rooted interest in preserving linguistic traditions.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Abdul Wahid, Registrar of IUST, emphasized the conference’s impact. “If just one solution suggested here is implemented in letter and spirit, it will be a significant success,” he said. He also extended gratitude to all the guests and participants for their contributions.

The conference, organized by the Habba Khatoon Centre for Kashmiri Language and Literature in collaboration with the Le-Khidmah Foundation Ganderbal, saw the presentation of at least 18 research papers. These papers covered various aspects of technological interventions in promoting the Kashmiri language, making the conference a comprehensive platform for scholarly discussions and actionable ideas.

The event successfully highlighted the potential of technology to boost the Kashmiri language and culture, inspiring attendees to take proactive steps toward its preservation.
