The government of India Saturday announced the establishment of two new airports at a cost of 2150 crores in the two regions of Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory.
The airport in Kashmir will be spread over 25 thousand square kilometres and will come up at a cost of Rs 1500 crore while Rs 650 crore will be spent on the new airport in Jammu province that will be established on 22 thousand square kilometres land, Union Minister for Civil Aviation Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said Saturday.
According to an official spokesperson, the Minister made this announcement during an interaction programme with DDC, BDC members, PRIs and locals at Harwan block of Srinagar district on Saturday.
Scindia, he said, maintained that since a special focus is being given on development of both air and road connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, a major road network including highways, ring road, tunnels and other projects are being constructed across Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
“The Minister said that the development of connectivity shall bring more tourists to J&K and promote local craft. He said that the promotion of tourism and crafts shall boost economic activity and prosperity of people of J&K,” he said.
“Scindia said that under the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, an era of peace, progress and development has already started in Jammu and Kashmir and all the three regions including Ladakh have come on track to become number one in construction and development in the country,” he added.
According to the official spokesperson, the Union Minister for Civil Aviation said that among other major projects, work was going on in full swing on the ring road worth Rs 3000 crore, while 100 percent households are being supplied electricity now, made possible by current dispensation.
The Minister, he said, also stated that currently 82 percent of the population is connected and being supplied tap water, however, the government is committed to cover all households in near future.
“He said that the Modi led government was not only successful in curbing corruption in J&K but sectors including health, education and others have also flourished in the UT during these years,” the official spokesperson said.
On this occasion, he said, various DDC and BDC members, sarpanchs and other PRIs raised their demands.
“The demands raised by the members included bridging developmental gap between urban and rural areas, construction of degree college and AYUSH Hospital in Harwan, development of area for rural tourism, better health and education facilities, deduction in power and water tariffs, loan waivers for drivers among others,” he added.
DC Srinagar, Mohammad Aijaz Assad, Private Secretary to Minister, SSP Srinagar, ADC Srinagar, officers from RDD among others were also present on the occasion.
LG, Scindia Discuss Strengthening Aviation Sector
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday discussed issues related to strengthening the aviation infrastructure in the Union Territory with Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia here.
Scindia arrived here as part of the Centres special outreach programme for Jammu and Kashmir. The L-G met the Union minister at the Raj Bhavan here.
“Today met Honble Union Minister for Civil Aviation, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia Ji @JM_Scindia at Raj Bhavan and discussed issues related to strengthening of aviation infrastructure in the Union Territory of J&K,” Sinha said on Twitter.
