Gurez, 16 July : A 25-year-old tourist from Srinagar was hospitalized following a snake bite in the picturesque Achoora area of Gurez. The incident occurred near the scenic Habba Khatoon spring, a popular destination for visitors exploring the natural beauty of the valley.

The tourist, whose identity has not been disclosed, was bitten by a venomous snake while enjoying his trek through the lush landscapes of Gurez. His quick-thinking friends and the local community played a crucial role in his rescue. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, they promptly sought medical help, transporting him to the nearest medical facility in the area.

At the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Gurez, medical staff administered the necessary anti-venom treatment to the patient. Dr. Tahir, the Block Medical Officer (BMO) of Gurez, confirmed that the patient was stabilized and then referred to the larger SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for advanced care.

“This is the first snake bite case we have encountered in Gurez in the past five years,” Dr.

Tahira told KNS. “The last such case was reported five years ago when a girl from Markoot was bitten. Fortunately, we have the required anti-venom available at our hospital, which allowed us to provide immediate treatment to the tourist before referring him to Srinagar for further care.”

“As of now, the tourist is receiving treatment at SMHS Hospital, where doctors are monitoring his condition and providing the necessary medical attention to ensure his recovery,” an official said.

Locals said that the incident highlights the potential dangers of exploring remote natural areas and the importance of being prepared for emergencies.

The swift and effective response
from the tourist’s companions and the local medical team was instrumental in managing the situation and providing the necessary care, they said.
