JAMMU, Apr 5 : The Jammu and Kashmir government has sanctioned the creation of 64 additional posts for the Bone and Joint (B&J) Hospital in Srinagar, a move that will make the newly constructed 120-bedded additional block of the hospital fully operational, Health Minister Sakeena Itoo said on Saturday.
The decision was taken by the Council of Ministers headed by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah following a comprehensive assessment of staffing requirements by the Health and Medical Education Department, Itoo said.
The minister said medical services in the new block were initially managed through internal arrangements and rational deployment of available manpower to ensure uninterrupted patient care. However, recognising the growing patient load, the government approved the creation of posts across various categories, she added.
The sanctioned posts include Senior Residents in Orthopaedics, Medicine, Surgery, Radiology and Microbiology, along with Resident Medical Officers, Casualty Medical Officers, nursing staff, technicians, administrative personnel and other supporting staff.
“This initiative reflects the government’s commitment not only towards creation of modern healthcare infrastructure but also towards ensuring that such facilities are adequately staffed, fully functional and accessible to the public,” Itoo said.
The minister emphasised that strengthening specialised institutions like the Bone & Joint Hospital is crucial for improving trauma care, orthopaedic treatment facilities and emergency response services across the Kashmir division. (KNS)
