Directed by the talented Ali Emran, Qouluf, the Ensorcelled is set to make history as the first Kashmiri language feature film to be screened in a cinema hall (Inox Srinagar) in 60 years. This profound cinematic journey is deeply rooted in the spiritual and cultural heritage of Kashmir, weaving together the philosophies of Rishism and Kashmiriyat. The film is not only a celebration of local talent but also a powerful meditation on the eternal human quest for meaning, detachment, and transcendence.

The film follows the life of Razzak Reshi, portrayed by veteran actor Bashir Dada, a humble caretaker of an abandoned church in the picturesque yet politically and spiritually turbulent region of Kashmir. Razzak’s life takes a mystical turn when he discovers a mysterious child on the church’s grounds. The child becomes a catalyst for Razzak’s spiritual awakening, setting him on a symbolic journey of inner peace and enlightenment. As he navigates the challenges posed by materialism, deceit, and personal grief, Razzak is guided by the teachings of Rishism—a philosophy that advocates for simplicity, selflessness, and harmony with nature.

Razzak’s journey in Qouluf is not merely a personal quest but a reflection of the spiritual and cultural ethos of Kashmir. The film’s philosophical undertones are deeply rooted in Kashmiriyat, a centuries-old social and cultural ethos that emphasizes coexistence and tolerance among different faiths. Through Razzak’s story, the film explores themes of detachment, transcendence, and the eternal struggle between the material and spiritual realms.

The stellar performances by the local talent of Kashmir elevate the film to an extraordinary level. Bashir Dada’s portrayal of Razzak Reshi is nothing short of remarkable, while Nazir Josh, Amin Bhat, Hakeem Javaid, the late Rasheed Shahnaaz, and Arif Zeeshaan bring depth and authenticity to their respective roles. These performances, coupled with the film’s technically adept production, contribute to a narrative that resonates with those who appreciate the beauty of the Kashmiri language, culture, and philosophy.

Qouluf, the Ensorcelled is not just a film; it is a cultural renaissance. For six decades, Kashmiri cinema has remained dormant, and the screening of this film at Inox Srinagar from 4th October 2024 onwards as part of the Jehlum Jammu Kashmir Film Carnival marks a historic moment. Organized by Seven 2 Creations, this film carnival celebrates the richness of Jammu Kashmir film industry and storytelling, and Qouluf stands as a beacon of hope for the future of Kashmiri cinema.

The film’s screening is more than just a cinematic event—it is a moment of pride for Kashmir and a revival of its long-lost cinematic legacy. It is hoped that the audience will shower their love and appreciation on this masterpiece, as it bridges the gap between past and present, offering a glimpse into the rich spiritual tapestry that defines Kashmir.

For those who cherish Kashmiri language, culture, and philosophy, Qouluf, the Ensorcelled is a must-watch. It offers more than just a story; it offers a reflection of the human spirit, bound by tradition and the timeless quest for inner peace.
