SRINAGAR 01 Jun: The Army has introduced an Aadhaar-based digital entry and exit verification system at gates along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district to ensure smoother movement for residents living across the border fence.

The initiative is aimed at improving civilian convenience while maintaining strict security measures in sensitive border areas, where residents frequently use designated gates for daily movement.

Officials said that the digital system enables faster and secure identification through Aadhaar-based verification, significantly reducing waiting time and streamlining access procedures.

They said the mechanism has been implemented to ease movement for local residents without compromising established security protocols in areas along the LoC.

Residents living beyond the border fence often depend on regulated gate access for agricultural work, essential travel and other routine activities.

Authorities said the Aadhaar-enabled system is expected to minimise procedural delays and enhance the efficiency of the verification process while ensuring robust security safeguards remain in place.

Officials added that the move reflects the growing use of digital technology in sensitive areas to strengthen identification systems and improve public facilitation.
