SRINAGAR 01 Jun : The President of India has appointed Justice Sanjeev Kumar, a sitting Judge of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh, to discharge the duties of the Chief Justice following the elevation of Justice Arun Palli to the Supreme Court of India.

According to an official notification issued under Article 223 of the Constitution, Justice Sanjeev Kumar will discharge the functions of the Chief Justice until a regular appointment is made, ensuring continuity in the functioning of the High Court.

The appointment comes after Justice Arun Palli, the incumbent Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh, was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court, marking a significant development in the higher judiciary.

Justice Sanjeev Kumar, who has been serving as a Judge of the High Court, brings extensive judicial experience to the role.

The notification stated that the President exercised powers under Article 223 of the Constitution, which provides for the appointment of an acting Chief Justice when the office falls vacant or when the Chief Justice is unable to perform the duties of the office.
