Government has appealed foreigners, travelers and visitors not to visit Jammu and Kashmir as well as Ladakh to help contain the spread of coronavirus.
“We appeal all the foreign visitors and travelers not to visit Jammu and Kashmir. Any visitor arriving in the Union Territory will be quarantined,” Government Spokesperson Rohit Kansal told journalists during a press conference here.
“We advise visitors not to visit Jammu and Kashmir, and if they arrive, we will quarantine them. Similar advice was given to the foreign visitors in Ladakh Union Territory. 100 percent quarantine shall be enforced for the visitors,” he added.
He appealed that people need not panic.
“We appeal that success of the steps taken by the Government depends upon the cooperation of the citizens. The public is advised to avoid unnecessary travel, use of public transport, crowded places, and ensure personal hygiene with soap and water,” he advised.
Asserting that Government is monitoring situation closely, he appealed that people with symptoms like fever, difficulty in breathing and cough must seek medical advice.
2802 ENLISTED FOR OBSERVATION IN J&K:
Kansal said that 2802 persons have been enlisted for observation, 2128 people have been kept under home quarantine, 28 kept in hospital under observation, 346 under home surveillance, 300 people have completed their 28 day surveillance period. 145 sample have been sent for testing so far, and out of which 118 are negative, and report of 24 samples is still awaited.
He said that there are only three positive cases in Jammu and Kashmir.
AVOID RELIGIOUS GATHERINGS, FUNCTIONS TILL MARCH 31:
Kansal appealed religious leaders that they should suspend all the religious gatherings and functions till March 31 in Jammu and Kashmir.
Meanwhile, officials said that pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi Shrine has been stopped from today.
The hostels have also been closed by the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) in Rajouri in view of advisory to avoid transmission of COVID-19.
Panic had struck the State Tax Department when their 15 officials were suspected to have come in contact with a COVID-19 positive patient who had returned from Saudi Arabia. These officials were kept under observation. Today, their medical report came negative.
At least 21 staff members of NHPC, and six of their guests have been kept under observation on apprehensions that they might have come in contact with a lady from Old City who was tested positive recently.
