Kupwara, Nov 8: The Indian Army on Friday foiled an infiltration attempt along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Keran sector of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, killing two terrorists, officials said.
According to defence sources, alert troops noticed suspicious movement near the LoC during the early morning hours. When challenged, the infiltrators opened fire, prompting a swift and effective response from the Army.
“In the ensuing exchange of fire, two terrorists attempting to cross into the Indian side were neutralized,” an Army spokesperson said, adding that a search operation is underway in the area to rule out the presence of more infiltrators.
Arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain terrorists. The identity and affiliation of the militants are being ascertained.
Officials said the operation highlights the Army’s continued vigilance along the LoC to prevent cross-border infiltration ahead of winter when heavy snowfall usually blocks the mountain passes.
