Srinagar, April 24 : Awami Itihaad Party (AIP) MLA from Langate Sheikh Khursheed on Friday launched a scathing attack over the dismissal of interim bail plea of Member of Parliament Er Rashid, saying the decision exposes a disturbing lack of compassion and raises serious questions about the fairness of the system.
In a strongly worded statement, Sheikh Khursheed said denying a son the chance to see his critically ill father in his final moments is “nothing short of inhuman” and goes against the basic principles of justice and humanity.
Sheikh Khursheed said: “Denial of interim bail to Er Rashid, even as his father lies on deathbed waiting for last glimpse of his incarcerated son, is nothing short of inhuman. What we are witnessing is not justice but a system that appears selective and devoid of compassion. If you are a Kashmiri Muslim, even being a Member of Parliament representing millions does not seem to matter. This is not just about one individual but story of 100s of Kashmiris in jails & it is about the conscience of a system that must answer for its fairness and humanity.
He further said that In today’s India, it seems relief comes swiftly if you are an Arnab Goswami, P Chidambaram, Manish Sisodia, Arvind Kejriwal or Asaram but remains out of reach for us.
This stark contrast only deepens the sense of injustice and selective application of law.”
He said the issue is not confined to one individual but reflects a broader pattern that demands introspection from institutions responsible for upholding justice. “When compassion is absent in moments that demand humanity the most, it shakes public faith in the system,” he said.
Sheikh Khursheed also lambasted the administration for invoking PSA against six youths of Sopore, calling it contradictory and counterproductive. He said the party opposes every form of violence; however, the police and civil administration must not evade proper investigation by taking the shortcut route by slapping PSA.
Sheikh Khursheed further said “On one side you are running campaigns like ‘Nasha Mukht’, and on the other side you are pushing young people and their families into depression. Without justifying the allegations of vandalism, such actions only deepen alienation and distress,”.
He urged the authorities to adopt a humane approach and ensure that justice is not only enforced but also felt by the people in times of distress. (KNS)
