Jammu, Apr 24 : In a late-night initiative to steer youth away from substance abuse, the Directorate of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) J&K organised a floodlit friendly football match at Parade Ground here as part of the Union Territory administration’s 100-day ‘Nasha Mukt J&K’ campaign.
Two local clubs—Warrior Club and Spartan Club—locked horns in a competitive contest that saw Warrior Club seal a 2-0 win. Officials, however, said the result took a backseat to the larger message of healthy sporting engagement.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu Ramesh Kumar flagged off the event along with Deputy Commissioner Jammu Rakesh Minhas. They were received by YSS Director General Anuradha Gupta.
Joint Director YSS Jammu Vinakshi Koul, Deputy Director (Planning/Activity) Megha Boagia, and Accounts Officer Sunil Kotwal were also present.
Addressing the gathering, the Divisional Commissioner administered a pledge against drugs. “This campaign is not just about awareness. It’s about action. Games like these reclaim young lives,” he said.
The YSS Director General delivered the welcome address, emphasising the role of sports in channelising youth energy.
Medals and trophies were awarded to both teams—not merely for the contest’s outcome, but for their commitment to a clean, drug-free sporting spirit, organisers said. (KNS)
