Srinagar, Apr 27 : People’s Democratic Party leader and legislator from Budgam Syed Aga Muntazir Mehdi on Monday strongly condemned the imposition of ban on Siraj-ul-Uloom in Shopian, terming it a matter of serious public concern.

Describing the institution as a vital centre of learning and moral guidance, MLA Budgan said Siraj-ul-Uloom has played an instrumental role in shaping generations through education and intellectual development. “Its contribution to education, character-building, and promotion of social harmony cannot be overlooked. For countless students and families, it has been a symbol of opportunity, values, and progress,” he said in a statement.

The MLA urged the authorities to immediately review and revoke the ban, insisting that justice, transparency, and the larger interests of education must prevail.

“At a time when education remains the strongest tool for peace, empowerment, and progress, we must stand together to protect institutions that nurture minds and build society,” Mehdi added, stressing that decisions affecting educational institutions should strengthen — not weaken — the foundations of learning and community trust the statment further reads.
