Bangladesh are confident of hosting the five-match white-ball series against Afghanistan in February, a BCB chief executive Nizamuddin Chowdhury told Cricbuzz on Thursday (December 30).
Afghanistan have a jam-packed schedule starting with a three-match ODI series at home against Netherland in January to be followed by a tour of Zimbabwe comprising three ODIs and five T20Is. the concerns over players’ workload management led to speculations of the postponement of their Bangladesh trip for three ODIs and two T20I matches.
Chowdhury, however, has brushed aside any such concerns. “The series remain as it is and we are planning to host Afghanistan in February.
“We have not heard anything negative from Afghanistan till date and we are hopeful that the series will take place as per the original schedule.”
Meanwhile, Sher-e- Bangla National Cricket Stadium is unlikely to any of the matches of the series, scheduled to start from February 23.
According to draft itinerary of the series, as seen by Cricbuzz, all the matches of the series have been awarded to Chattogram and Sylhet. It is understood that Mirpur has been ruled out as a possible venue because the traditionally spin-friendly tracks could potentially play into the hands of the opponents.
The three ODIs, which are a part the ICC Super League, will be played at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on February 23, 25 and 27. The teams then travel to Sylhet for the 20-over games scheduled on March 2 and 4.
