Srinagar, Mar 27 : Several households in a village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Budgam district have alleged that their electricity supply was snapped despite clearing their bills, prompting them to seek intervention from authorities.

Residents of Chairhara village in the Beerwah area said the power supply under Receiving Station SK Pora, Feeder-2, was disconnected over pending dues, but claimed that many families with no outstanding bills were also affected.

In a memorandum submitted to the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Electric Sub Division Beerwah, the residents termed the blanket power cut “unjustified” and demanded restoration of supply to bill-paying consumers.

They said the outage has caused inconvenience to students preparing for examinations, elderly persons and patients requiring medical care.

The residents urged the authorities to take action specifically against defaulters instead of imposing a shutdown across the locality.

Officials of the Electric Sub Division Beerwah could not be contacted for comment.(KNS).
